Jamika Ann Tashawna Summerville, a 25-year-old special education instructional assistant, was fatally shot on the Hilltop early Saturday morning.
A Columbus City Schools teacher was killed in an early-morning shooting Saturday on the Hilltop.
Officers found Jamika Ann Tashawna Summerville, 25, suffering from a gunshot wound, according to police. Summerville was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in critical condition. She was pronounced dead about 2:15 a.m. Summerville worked as a special education instructional assistant at Highland Elementary School on the Hilltop, just blocks away from where she was shot and killed. She work at Highland for five years and was also a graduate of Columbus City Schools, district spokesperson Jacqueline Bryant said.
The district's CARE Team and Wellness Team will be available Monday to support students and staff experiencing sadness or anxiety and to help them process their emotions.
