CODA actor and newly minted Oscar winner Troy Kotsur reenacts famous scenes from movies like The Godfather, Star Wars, and The Graduate in American Sign Language in an incredible new video.
CODA actor Troy Kotsur has reenacted famous movie scenes by signing the lines in American Sign Language in a new video. CODA is the hit AppleTV+ movie that tells the tale of Ruby, the titular CODA . Ruby is the only hearing person in her family and when her parent's fishing business is threatened, Ruby must decide between following her passion to study music at college or staying with her parents to help them.
As many now know, CODA was the surprise winner of Best Picture at this year's Oscars. Only in the last week of the Oscar race did the film suddenly overtake movies by seasoned Oscar pros like Jane Campion and Steven Spielberg for favorite to win the coveted award. Kotsur also went home with a gold statue for Best Supporting Actor, making him only the second deaf actor in history to win an Academy Award. The first was, of course, his co-star Matlin who won back in 1987.
Perhaps with the overwhelming success of CODA at this year's Academy Awards, the deaf community will see a rise in representation in cinema. Only time will tell, however, no matter what, Kotsur has certainly made his community and the larger film community very proud of him for his historic win.
