'A Christmas Story' star Melinda Dillon died at the age of 83 on Jan. 9. She was a two-time Academy Award nominee for her roles in 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' and 'Absence of Malice.'
"Melinda was generous of spirit and lent such kindness to the character she played in ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’… We will all miss her," Spielberg said in a statement to Variety.
Dillon earned a best supporting actress Oscar nomination for her role in Steven Spielberg's classic 1977 science fiction film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."
