Host Ellie Harrison paid tribute on this week's BBC show
A well known climber who helped presenter Helen Skelton on Countryfile has sadly died, the show has revealed. Known as ‘Climber Pete’, he appeared with the star in 2020 as they got to grips with the Peak District.
She introduced Pete by telling viewers: “When he’s not in his favourite chair at the pub, local climbing legend Pete can be found dangling from rocks like these.” The section showed Helen taking on a challenging section of rock. She told Pete: “As you get up, it gets slightly easier. It’s more of a challenge at the bottom.”
Joining Pete and his friends Olly and Crystal, the group climbed the mountains together, with Helen admitting she struggled to begin with. He then encouraged her telling her she “did good”.
