on New Year’s Eve in the Kamm’s Corners area of Cleveland. Bartek was off duty when he was shot twice in the back during the altercation. His funeral was held Tuesday at Grace Church of Middleburg Heights.
Cleveland officials on Wednesday ruled the slaying as a “line of duty” death after watching video of the attack and determining he used his police training to try and stop the carjacking. Bartek, a 25-year-old Cleveland resident, was hired in August 2019 and worked as a patrolman in the Fifth District, which makes up the northeast corner of the city.states he was a basketball and soccer enthusiast, and never missed an opportunity to spend quality time with his family and friends.
