The free day is a way for the museum to show off the progress on its $150 million transformation, which is about halfway done and slated for completion in 2024.

CLEVELAND, Ohio--The Cleveland Museum of Natural History will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 6, but when it reopens at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7, admission will be waived, giving the public a free opportunity to see some of the newest, reimagined spaces and exhibits.

“Through the transformation and expansion of the Museum, we are pioneering new ways for visitors to experience our irreplaceable collections, the groundbreaking work of world-renowned scientists, and dynamic educational programs that inspire awe and encourage curiosity, says Sonia Winner, the museum’s president & CEO. “There are great new things to experience at the Museum this fall, and the best is yet to come.

Starting Dec. 7, visitors will come through a new Wade Oval Entrance that provides access to a new, year-round Origins Café with indoor and outdoor seating and a refreshed menu. The Nathan and Fannye Shafran Planetarium will be reopened with new programming and new seating. Visits will be included with general admission.

The updated Murch Auditorium will offer 3-D movies. Inaugural movies include “Superpower Dogs” and “Dinosaurs Alive!”sculpture outside the museum. And they can still enjoy live animals in the Ralph Perkins II Wildlife Center & Woods Garden. A new ticketing policy also starts Dec. 7. All visitors will be asked to reserve their tickets before arriving at the museum.
