Be aware that parking may be an issue if you're planning to leave your car at the airport.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – It’s the Cleveland traveler’s version of March madness: searching for an airport parking spot during the busy spring break travel period.were full, except the off-site Brown lot, which requires a shuttle ride to the terminal.Absent the travel slowdown during the coronavirus pandemic, Cleveland Hopkins parking lots have been overflowing in recent years during busy holiday periods, including late December, mid-March and July.
And the airport does not have enough parking. The city-owned airport controls just under 7,000 spaces at five different lots and garages. Compare that to 16,000 spaces at John Glenn Columbus International Airport and 14,000 at Pittsburgh International Airport, both of which serve fewer passengers than Cleveland.
The problem is compounded by ongoing rehab work at the Smart Parking Garage, where approximately 2,000 spaces are currently out of commission. That work won’t be done until late summer, according to airport officials. In the meantime, the airport plans to open a temporary parking location – dubbed the Grey Lot – with 1,000 spaces north of the terminal, serviced by a shuttle. It should be ready in late April, according to airport spokesman John Goersmeyer.
In addition, there are also several privately-owned parking lots on Snow Road that, as of Wednesday, had availability. All require a shuttle ride to the terminal. Unlike the city-owned lots, Park Place, Park ‘N Fly and Fast Park take online reservations. (To make reservations: see
