Merced made her debut on Broadway in “Evita” when she was 10 years old and starred in several stage productions at Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood and Mighty Goliath Productions in Avon Lake as a youth.
The superhero, whose origins go back to 1940, is known for having wings and her mastery of archaic weaponry such as swords, spears and maces. Television viewers may be familiar with Hawkgirl from the CW’s “Arrowverse” franchise, but this will be the character’s first appearance in the DC Cinematic Universe.
In “Superman: Legacy,” Merced will star opposite David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathon Fillon as a Green Lantern known as Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. “Superman: Legacy,” of course, features characters created by Clevelanders Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1933.
