On Friday, two high schools under Seattle Public Schools will not hold classes for students, and several other district schools will shift to remote learning.
At Olympic Hills Elementary, Broadview Thomson K-8 Elementary, Mercer International Middle, and Meany Middle schools, classes will shift to remote learning starting Friday, with a two-hour late start. This is all due to COVID-19 causing student and staff absences.
District officials said that while they know this is challenging, keeping students at home is essential in helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19. For schools switching to remote learning, this is expected to last for five school days with a return to in-person learning starting Jan. 24. Due to confirmed COVID-19 in our school community and increased student and staff absences, Mercer international Middle School will shift to remote learning starting Friday, Jan. 14. Classes will start on a 2-hour delay. More at
