This year, the City of Greater Sudbury is slated to replace or refurbish 12 bus shelters
As part of an annual effort to refurbish and replace GOVA Transit shelters, the city is slated to replace or refurbish 12 bus shelters this year.
The effort will find crews remove shelters between April and October, and replace them with new or refurbished structures.Refurbished shelters are sandblasted and painted, with new glass and dome roof panels, and improved lighting and benches installed alongside a new concrete pad, if necessary. Refurbished and replaced shelters will have a similar look, according to a media release issued by the city, and it takes approximately two to six weeks to upgrade or replace a shelter, depending on the type of work that needs to be done.
The average cost of a new or refurbished shelter is approximately $8,300, while the replacement cost of a concrete pad is $8,900.Meanwhile, the city clarified that GOVA regularly maintains shelters and are all being cleaned beginning now, through the summer.
