“The Zero Emission Bus pilot program has shown that Battery Electric Buses can operate in service, as an alternative to diesel buses,” the report concludes.
Engineers monitored key performance indicators including mileage, efficiency, diesel savings and emissions reductions and factored in maintenance and operations costs, according to the staff report. The New Flyer XE40 electric buses “have met or surpassed the range and efficiency data” provided by New Flyer, the report states.The program has already met Council approval and the first 26 E-buses are due to arrive in late 2024 or early 2025, said Coun. Wilson Lo in an email.
