Differences in air quality between arenas with electric and non-electric Zambonis may be skewed by pollutants from Algoma Steel, councillors are told

City council rejected a suggestion this week from Ward 4 Coun. Stephan Kinach to compare air quality in our arenas with electric Zambonis, to arenas with traditional non-electric ice resurfacers.

Brent Lamming, the city's director of community planning, says such a study at all three city-owned arenas would cost about $17,000. It cleans and smooths ice surfaces at the twin-pad Northern Community Centre on Goulais Avenue, saving on annual maintenance and fuel costs."Staff have reviewed the resolution and understand the intent is to further support the conversion to electric ice resurfacers," Lamming said in a report to Mayor Shoemaker and councillors.
