No. 1 seed Clayton Valley loses to No. 16 seed Granite Bay. San Ramon Valley boys eliminate defending D-I champs.
San Ramon Valley coach Brian Botteen had a gravelly voice as his team returned to the Bay Area on Tuesday night after edging seventh-seeded Clovis North in the opening round of the CIF NorCal Division I regionals.
“He hit shots, he blocked shots,” Granada coach Quaran Johnson said of Harris’ performance in the second half. “He was a one-man show for us. He didn’t want the season to end.” The Ugly Eagles were solid favorites, playing at home and having a much better record than the Grizzlies, who are just 15-18 even with Tuesday’s first-round triumph.
“We had our best defender get in foul trouble, and nobody else could stay in front of the guy,” Allocco said. “He was tough to cover, that’s for sure.” “For more, it’s really the uniqueness of uncharted territory,” California coach Steve Ohlmeyer said. “I am so flattered, humbled by people who have reached out, well-wishers. A lot of alums. Other coaches. Coaches in our league.”If Oakland was suffering from any sort of emotional letdown after losing the Oakland Section championship to Oakland Tech by three points on Saturday, it certainly didn’t show when the team traveled to Ponderosa-Shingle Springs for a NorCal Division III first-round game.
