Community Investment Corporation and Startup Tucson hosted a mixer on Thursday, May 3 to celebrate the official proclamation of BIPOC Entrepreneurs Day.
This came in response to Executive Director Danny Knee realizing that the community faced disadvantages in terms of funding and capital. The answer was the BIPOC Loan Fund, which provides zero-interest loans to three BIPOC-run businesses per month. Small businesses can receive loans up to $10,000.“We’re investing in BIPOC entrepreneurs because they contribute so much to our community," Knee said."They’re the fastest-growing population of entrepreneurs and we want to make sure that they have the resources that they may have previously not had access to.
"Zero percent interest and the fact that when you pay it back, it goes back into the community," she noted."That's something that most banks would never offer."
