In 1979, the “Miss Piggy” crashed after takeoff due to an oversized load.We also visited the Polar Bear Holding Facility that houses bears that wander into town before relocating them when the ice freezes. Canada is home to two-thirds of the world’s 26,000 polar bears. Churchill is unique because about 600 bears congregate nearby every fall.
From there, we spent a few hours at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre, a non-profit that supports researchers with accommodations, meals, lab space and equipment.
