Christopher Bell takes must-win at Martinsville, Championship Four set.
For the second time this season, Christopher Bell effectively needed to win the final race of a round to advance to the next round of the NASCAR playoffs. He was behind during the final stint, but he took the lead from teammate Denny Hamlin in the pit lane once and looked set to pull away for the much-needed win with 30 to go.
Briscoe and Custer got away clean on the re-start, with Custer once again looking like the teammate Briscoe needed in what would be a much more legal alliance to help the 14 advance than. But, while Bell worked through the other drivers who had taken two tires, Custer began to fade. Briscoe moved into second with under ten to go, then made his way to Briscoe. A few corners later, Bell took the lead he so badly needed and never looked back.
