At the very least, the former had some roots in conservative Christian indignation over the proliferation of the phrase “happy holidays.” The latter—which, of course, already refers to a secular holiday—seems conjured up entirely from the psychedelic funhouse of the president’s imagination.
What, exactly, such work will consist of is not yet clear. But already the president’s absurd claims have begun making the rounds in the right-wing echo chamber. On Wednesday morning, thehad weighed changing the name of the holiday in 2015 , suggesting that liberals would rather Skype their grandmothers than actually visit them for the Turkey Day feast, and generally implying that the left has it in for the longstanding traditions associated with the holiday.
