In another sense, though, it’s not law at all: You won’t find Quebec’s unilateral amendment included in any copy of the Constitution, online or off. It’s bizarre.
“Every member of a … legislative assembly of any province shall before taking his seat therein take and subscribe before the lieutenant governor of the province … the oath of allegiance,” Section 128 currently reads.Article content As it stands it’s all moot, because no one is challenging the law. And of course that’s hardly surprising.
Many Canadians would no doubt scoff at the notion that a fusty old oath to a jug-eared monarch could make any difference to anything.
