The crash happened about 4:40 a.m., the CHP said.
A person died early Wednesday in a two-car crash on a freeway transition near the MacArthur Maze, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened about 4:40 a.m. on westbound Interstate 580 on the transition ramp to eastbound I-80, according to the agency. One of the vehicles ended up on its roof after overturning, according to the CHP. The agency did not have any additional details on what happened in the wreck. Authorities did not identify the person publicly, pending notification of next of kin.
The crash blocked the transition lane, but the CHP was able to clear it relatively quickly. They did not issue a Sig Alert for severe traffic.
