Chinese spies stole NSA cyberweapons and used them on targets across the world, a year before they were leaked online by the Shadow Brokers.
Share to twitterPortions of the NSA's cyber arsenal leaked online in 2017, but a year before Chinese spies were using them, according to Symantec researchers. A Chinese group of hackers managed to get hold of cyberweapons from the U.S. National Security Agency's arsenal of digital weapons and were using them as far back as 2016.
The researchers were unable to say just how Buckeye stole from the NSA a year before the public Shadow Brokers leak. It could be that the hackers witnessed an NSA attack on a network and put the"artefacts" left on infected computers back together to recreate the American intelligence agency's tools.
