The Taihang-7, a groundbreaking achievement in domestic engineering, was recently inaugurated and put into operation on the Lufeng 8-1 floating oil and gas platform, positioned approximately 180 kilometers southeast of Shenzhen City in the South China Sea, according to Chinese state-run media reports.
The Taihang-7 is a formidable power source for offshore rigs, boasting an impressive 7-megawatt capacity and generating over 5 megawatt-hours of electricity within a single hour. This output level translates to meeting the daily energy demands of approximately 500 households. Notably, the gas turbine achieves a significant reduction in carbon emissions, eliminating nearly 80,000 tonnes annually in contrast to similar imported equipment.
Offshore rigs play a pivotal role in ensuring global energy supply, particularly in the extraction of oil and gas resources from beneath the ocean floor. These rigs, situated at sea, facilitate the exploration and extraction of crucial hydrocarbon reserves located in offshore areas. Their significance lies in their contribution to meeting the world's energy demands. Offshore rigs are crucial in addressing the global energy mix, as they access reserves beyond the reach of onshore drilling.
