THUNDER BAY — It may be called a gala, but the 2023 Annual Children's Gala is more about eating and entertainment for the kids.
The Canadian Children's Asthma Society is putting on the event on Saturday, from noon to 5:30 p.m. at the Italian Culture Centre. Organizers are hoping to raise money for Thunder Bay chapter and their programming, which includes an elementary school asthma education program. Claudio Monteleone, the co-chair of the Northwestern Ontario branch, said he wants the gala to raise awareness in the community and that they are able to help kids with asthma in the region. Along with various programming, the organization is able to help families purchase equipment and aides that aren't covered by OHIP."We're hoping by this fall, we can start redoing counselling services again, but it all depends on how things are set up," Monteleone said.
While galas are typically about pomp and circumstance, this one is more casual and laid back, featuring entertainment aimed at children. There will be door prizes, raffles, auctions and a full buffet. Tickets for the 2023 Annual Children's Gala can be purchased through the Canadian Children's Asthma website, as well as at Java Hut and Bogdala's Smoked Meats on Simpson Street.
