The benefits of board books for babies (and parents)
Board books appear in all respects to be simply . . . books. They have pages and spines and covers; they contain pictures and words.
Here’s the thing, though: A board book is not so much a book in the conventional sense as a mechanism for sparking the parent-child interactions that are so valuable for the growing brain. The best board books engage babies and toddlers in thinking, seeing and pointing, while also eliciting adult commentary and questioning, all of which promotes emotional and cognitive flourishing.
