Breaking: Child dead after overnight fire near Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, OPP say

A child has died after an overnight fire near Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, says Ontario Provincial Police.

Just before 2 a.m. on Monday, emergency crews including Six Nations’ fire department, responded to a fire “at a Mississauga road, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation address,” Ontario Provincial Police constable Ed Sanchuk for Haldimand County said in a video posted to Twitter. “Fire fighters arrived on scene and were met with a fully engulfed camping trailer. extinguished the blaze, however I’m sad to say a young child was located inside,” Sanchuk continued.In late February,Anotherkilled a 10-year-old girl on Weenusk First Nation, in northern Ontario. The Nishnawbe Aski Nation said the tragedy highlighted the lack of resources and support on First Nations to fight fires.

Haldimand County OPP crime unit, the office of the fire marshal, chief coroner and Ontario’s forensic pathology services are now investigating Monday’s fatal fire near Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. “I want to put out my sincere and deepest condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy,” said Sanchuk. “You are in our thoughts and prayers.”
