BREAKING: A Chicago police officer has died after being shot during a call. The suspect was also critically wounded, CPD says
A Chicago police officer has died after being shot on the city's Southwest Side Wednesday afternoon.
Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said the officer was responding to a domestic call about a person with a gun in the 5200-block of South Spaulding.When officers arrived, the suspect was chasing a woman down the street, Brown said. The officer pursued the suspect and they exchanged gunfire at close range.
The officer was struck multiple times and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.Brown said the officer had been with the department for five years and has a family of public servants. No further details about the officer have been released.
