Up to 150,000 dimes minted in 1982 in Philadelphia were missing their mint mark, making them much more valuable than just 10 cents.
Because the mint mark is missing, the No P Dimes are worth hundreds of times more than the original face value of 10 cents.
A MS-66-graded example sold for $300, PCGS reported. Heritage Auctions, the world’s largest numismatic auctioneer, sold one of the No-P dimes for $545 in 2005. In 2022, an MS-67 example graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Co. Sold for $630.A good number of 1982 No-P Dimes are believed to still be in circulation to this day,The 1982 No-P Dimes were originally discovered in December 1982. Between 8,000 and 10,000 were found in Sandusky, Ohio.
Since the 1982 No-P Dimes were found in circulation, they brought a lot of attention to the coin hobby and inspired many people to become coin collectors trying to find these coins in circulation, Ramirez said.
