CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — It’s only two games but if first impressions mean anything, it looks like it could be a fun year for fans of the Charlottetown ...

Charlottetown Islanders forward Alexis Michaud fires the puck past Halifax Mooseheads goaltender Jack Milner for a first-period goal on a penalty shot in a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game Sept. 23. Michaud would record four points in a 6-1 win over the Mooseheads in the Islanders’ home opener, played before over 3,100 fans at Eastlink Centre. “Very, very pleased to get the two wins,” said Islanders general manager and head coach Jim Hulton. “We have to take advantage of opportunities, and we know their top players are still away at pro camps. The Islanders host the Moncton Wildcats on Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m., and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan visit Charlottetown on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.

“We didn’t create hardly anything when you looked at the numbers and video,” said Hulton. “We got some guys off the schneid . Aksels Ozols of Latvia stopped 19 of 20 shots in his regular-season debut between the pipes for the Islanders. Hulton pointed out Ozols provided a couple of key saves in the first period, including a point-blank stop.

The 16-year-old Conrad, from New Glasgow, N.S., was on the ice in the last minute of the season-opening game in Halifax with the Islanders protecting a 2-1 lead and the Mooseheads with a 6-on-4-man advantage. Conrad promptly scored his first QMJHL regular-season goal when he cleared the puck from inside his own zone into the open Halifax goal.
