CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The cultural pavilion in Charlottetown’s Victoria Park should be moved to the city's event grounds, says Coun. Mitchell Tweel. The ...

In that interview, Michael Pendergast said he wants to host 10 ceilidhs on Monday nights through the summer and fall.“It’s no secret that this facility is underutilized," Tweel said in an interview at the pavilion.

“With respect to this facility … I was opposed to the pavilion being constructed here because I know how sensitive people are in terms of protecting green space here in Victoria Park and rightly so," Tweel said. “We’ve gone through different dilemmas and challenges, such as the Jack Frost Festival." “I would like to put that on the table and relocate this facility. We have a lot of artists in this city that don’t have access to an outdoor venue. If this facility were down at the event grounds it could be going six, seven days a week."

“The impulse to move all cultural activity to a select area of the municipality effectively ghettoizes music and keeps it from local residents," Pendergast said. “I’m glad to see that at least one councillor is suggesting a solution to this wasted venue."
