While there are plenty of concerns about the ways in which AI might be used to displace human labour, Charli AI CEO Kevin Collins isn’t convinced that will happen. After all, he’s seen the tech-takes-jobs conversation before.
Kevin Collins jokes that he knows more about artificial intelligence than he should. Now that he runs Charli AI, a generative AI software company focusing on helping businesses improve their efficiency, you’d expect him to be rather bullish on the capabilities of AI in the modern office.“We never want AI to be a black box,” he says. “We always want it to be engaging with the workforce. It’s there to augment the workforce. It’s there to supercharge human decision-making.
I didn’t have to explain the career angle, amazingly enough, because there was a bit of a mystique around computers. People understood that they were going to be the future. They didn’t understand anything about the tech. Today, everyone’s got a phone and a computer — they know all about it. Back then, nobody knew what was going on.
I realized that we end up doing a lot of administrivia — the drudgery of day-to-day work — and we knew AI could solve it. The whole point of Charli was getting a chief of staff that could take care of all the day-to-day things that slip through the cracks. The other side of it is the accuracy. There are a lot of great things that ChatGPT and OpenAI are doing for the consumer side of the fence, but when you start to get into enterprise software, you have to be much more sophisticated.
