Tensions are understandably at an all-time high here, even more so since March 3 when police in Paterson killed Najee Seabrooks.

In moving speech after moving speech, in poems and essays, and even in recited prayers, the residents of Paterson told their elected officials exactly how they can best serve them right now, how they can best serve them in their time of heartbreak, grief and indignation — by saying yes to measures that hold Paterson police accountable.

Along with a few others, she quickly rushed to his side to try to provide him with the crucial mental health support he was in dire need of but says she and her colleagues were stopped from doing so by police who repeatedly told them they “had it all under control.”
