Students at Chambersburg Area School District headed back to school for their first day on Thursday.
The district superintendent, Chris Bigger said there are different ways to become a school of distinction, including becoming a US News and World Report top performing school or becoming a community-based school. This year, the district has implemented a new contact system for students who are missing schools. Parents will be contacted by text, calls, and email for any unexcused absences.
The district is asking parents not to reach out to their child through their cell phone during the school day. They ask if one needs to get in touch with their child, call the main office and the school will relay the message.
