NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar were too much for the Predators in the first two games of their Stanley Cup playoff series. The Avalanche’s superstar center and all-world defenseman combined for five goals and nine points — more than Nashville’s entire team in 7-2 and 2-1 Avs wins at Ball Arena.Thing is, the Avs have so much more behind them. This team still has plenty of firepower even if the M&M boys have an off night or two. But don’t expect that.
MacKinnon had two goals and three points in Game 1 to surpass 70 points in 51 career playoff games. That’s tied for the fifth-quickest in NHL history behind Hockey Hall of Famers Wayne Gretzky , Mario Lemieux , Jari Kurri and Joe Sakic . “He’s a driving force on our team, and it was awesome to see him get that first one ,” Makar said. “I feel like the boys just, in general, built off of that the whole night. So he definitely started it off and continued it for us.
