The West Shore School District had to shift to remote learning for some schools because of a lack of bus drivers to pick up and drop off students.

Transportation issues over the next two weeks will likely result in a “loss of instructional time at all levels,” the West Shore School District’s superintendent said in a Thursday statement.

All students in the district will attend classes in-person from Oct. 2 through Oct. 4, but there will be a remote learning day on Oct. 5 leading up two days off on Oct. 6 and Oct. 9.from Sept. 18 through Sept. 29 due to the transportation issuesWhile the district aims to take all students with an assigned bus stop to and from school each day, there may be necessary adjustments made to pick up and drop off times over the next 14 days.

Families will be notified of any last minute changes by email, phone or text. Parents should also be aware that bus numbers may not match the assigned buses in PowerSchool while bus drivers cover multiple routes. Parents/guardians are also welcome to drop and pick up their children, but are asked to be considerate of others and be prompt to limit traffic and delays.

First Student, the company that hires and manages the district’s bus drivers, hired one licensed driver this week and has four more drivers in training to fill vacant routes, the press release says.
