The long-awaited Central Booking facility at the Cuyahoga County jail has officially opened, but it will be at least another month before the county sees any benefits.
The Central Booking area at the Cuyahoga County Correction Center was still being renovated during a May 24, 2022, tour, but opened for use in late June. The new expedited booking process, which is expected to help reduce the jail’s population by helping to release low-risk offenders on the least restrictive bonds, will not be implemented until “as early as Labor Day, is what we’re hoping,” Rymer said. That’s all just to close out phase one of the construction project, which comprises the primary functions of Central Booking.
