High school boys basketball season ends at provincial tournaments in Langley
Ranked eighth at the single-A boys basketball provincial championship, the Cedars Christian Eagles won three of their four games at 16-team tournament in Langley and finished fifth.
Backed by second-team provincial all star Ryan Crosina, the Eagles finished their season on a high when they defeated St. John’s 72-70 in the fifth-place playoff Friday at Langley Events Centre. Crosina scored a team high 22 points.Cedars, the North Central zone champions, opened with a 44-40 win over St. Ann’s.
Northside Christian of Vanderhoof placed 15th with a 1-2 record, finishing with a 56-46 triumph over Ucluelet.At the triple-A boys provincial in Langley, the College Heights Cougars also exceeded expectations when they finished eighth. Seeded 14th, the Cougars upset third-ranked Thomas More Collegiate 62-60 on opening day.In the battle for seventh place on Friday the Cougars fell 81-61 to Mennonite Educational Institute.
Nechako Valley of Vanderhoof went 1-3 in the tournament and finished 15th, ending with a 57-52 win over Charles Hays. Meanwhile, in the quad-A provincial championships, the Prince George Polars opened with three losses – 102-54 to Oak Bay, 90-62 to Heritage Woods and 82-59 to Tamanawis. PGSS then completed the season with a 96-63 win over Mount Baker to place 15th.
