Overall, the fertility rate remained at 1.66 births per woman.

“The total fertility rate in 2022 remained at below replacement … the rate has generally been below replacement since 1971 and consistently below replacement since 2007,” the CDC report states.In terms of demographics, general fertility rates declined about two percent for black women in the U.S. from 2021 to 2022 and about three percent for American Indian women and white women.

The general fertility rate for women 15 to 44 years old was 56.1 births 1,000 — indicating a slight decline from 2021.
