CBC employees who responded to a confidential diversity survey last year found the information was now part of their online HR profile.
Nowhere in the “cultural census” emails seen by the Post was it mentioned that the data would be linked to individual employees and placed in their HR file.
“I was taken aback, for sure,” the employee said. “This was just supposed to be purely statistical data, not in any way linked to our profiles.”“It feels like management tricked us into telling them very personal details in the name of improving diversity,” said the second employee.Article content In a statement, CBC spokesperson Leon Mar said that employees’ information “remains strictly confidential” and that only a “select few” people within the organization have access to employees’ identity details. He also insisted participation in the survey was voluntary.Article content
However, those explanations do not cut it for privacy and information management expert Rick Klumpenhouwer. For one Radio-Canada employee, the employer’s “misuse” of workers’ data is “sadly ironic” at a time when the broadcaster is constantly airing stories about privacy issues and the importance of protecting personal information.
