David Riston, 49, died of “snake envenomation,” according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Maryland. His death was ruled to be an accident.
No one knew the man was keeping the snakes in his home, but he had a long, and extremely dangerous list, kept “meticulously,” in cages, according to reports. Riston reportedly had 124 snakes, some described as “exotic and illegal,” in cages in his home when officers found him during a welfare check in January. According to reports, the list of snakes Riston kept included a 14-foot Burmese python as well as rattlesnakes, cobras and black mambas.All of the snakes were reportedly removed that day.
