Finally at his natural position of left tackle last season, Johnson blossomed into a consensus All-American. He allowed only two sacks — one each in the final two games of his OSU career against Michigan and Georgia. He allowed 14 total pressures and his overall Pro Football Focus grade of 83.0 ranked eighth nationally among tackles.
Johnson will be asked to step in right away and protect franchise quarterback Kyler Murray. The 2018 Heisman Trophy winner at Oklahoma was sacked 25 times in 11 games last season. Arizona ranked 16th in the NFL in sack percentage allowed. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said during ESPN’s pre-draft coverage that Johnson sat on his couch on a recruiting visit and listed three goals — grow his foundation, earn his degree in three years and be the first tackle selected in the draft.
