Show #6: The Addams Family
Sydney McIntosh as Fester Addams , Eric Lacasse as Gomez Addams , and Zacharie Zegers as Lurch , perform during Colonel By Secondary School’s Cappies production of The Addams Family.Sydney McIntosh was riveting as Fester Addams. Making their presence known in every scene and creating a memorable personality for their character, Mcintosh beautifully brought to life the weird, kooky uncle that the Addams love dearly.
In their roles of Gomez and Morticia Adams, Eric Lacasse and Lily Henaff displayed remarkable chemistry and maintained a smooth, heavily characterized rapport throughout the performance, including in vocal and dance sequences. Piercing, unamused facial expressions, combined with delicately crossed arms and elegant posture, allowed Henaff to expertly portray the poised essence of Morticia.
Charles Addams’ original characters and story, the lovably grim Addams Family , sparked the creation of Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice’s musical rendition in 2009. Ever ghastly, the Addams live by particularly firm familial structures, based on rules of honesty, love, and embracing their dark livelihood. Wednesday , the eldest daughter of the family, typically maintains a morbidly cold demeanour, and is met with newly found love, Lucas Beineke .
The ensembles of vocals and dance contributed greatly to the performance. Skyler Begin’s artistic makeup designs for these ensembles, The Addams’s Ancestors, were hauntingly mesmerising. The physical attributes of the production were made exquisitely. Sets created by Megan Tao provided depth and an antique sensation in each scene, bringing the vision of the gothic Addams family mansion to life.
All parts of Colonel By Secondary School’s production worked synchronously to create a hilarious and emotionally charged performance. The actors interacted with each other, the set, and the props throughout the show. The vocalists were able to harmonize with the other singers, as well as the live orchestra that provided the music throughout.Article content
Morbidly funny and emotionally engaging all the way through, Colonel By Secondary School’s production of The Addams Family was definitely far from a “normal night.”“What’s normal for the spider is a calamity for the fly” in Colonel By Secondary School’s wonderful performance of The Addams Family. The superb acting paired with affectionate singing worked to bring the ghoulish world to the stage seamlessly.
