JASON MALLOY/SALTWIRE NETWORK - JASON MALLOYPORT HOOD, N.S. — A Cape Breton West Islanders goaltender recorded the most saves in the Nova Scotia Under-18 Major Hockey League during the 2022-23 season.

Rhyah Stewart of Antigonish stopped 693 of 771 shots over the course of the season, which saw the 17-year-old appear in 21 regular season games with the Port Hood-based Islanders.Making history: Cape Breton West Islanders’ goaltender Rhyah Stewart embraces being first female to ever play for Port Hood team

Along with making Islanders' history as the first female to play for the franchise, Stewart also suited up for Team Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games in Charlottetown, helping lead the team to its best finish ever at the event — a silver medal win. Stewart is the sister of current Antigonish Bulldogs forward Zachary Stewart as well as Pictou County Weeks Crushers defenceman Leyton Stewart.
