Nova Scotia's Serious Incident Response Team has charged an RCMP officer from the Baddeck detachment with indecent exposure. CONTRIBUTEDBADDECK, N.S. — A Cape Breton-based RCMP officer is facing an indecent exposure charge after an investigation from Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team .
In a release issued Wednesday, the province's independent police watchdog said that Const. Justin Sanford of the RCMP’s Baddeck detachment has been charged with a violation of section 173 of the Criminal Code of Canada. According to the agency, RCMP contacted SiRT in mid-December concerning an investigation being conducted into the incident, which allegedly took place in 2021.
As outlined in Section 173 of the Code, the person charged is accused of exposing one’s genital organs to another person under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose. Penalties range from a minimum of 30 days in prison to a maximum of two years. In addition, as a result of the conviction, the accused will be a registered sex offender for a minimum of 10 years.It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
