A proposed $100-million student and worker housing project called Straitville is planned for Port Hastings on roughly 53 acres adjacent to the A&W restaurant. “That’s the way it goes. There’s a market there, a need for the area. Me, being a property manager in the area, I know the need for sure.” The proposed project is a partnership under the name Independent Investment Nova Scotia, and MacInnis said the developers are in the process of trying to obtain environmental permits from the province.
Two years ago, the college opened its own new student housing unit adjacent to the Port Hawkesbury campus to accommodate approximately 50 students.
