The host Cape Breton Capers may be out of championship contention at the U Sports Women’s Final 8 Basketball Championship this weekend but local basketball fans do have a reason to pay attention to the semifinal games. Laura Donovan of the Queen’s Gaels, middle, has family connections to Cape Breton as her mother Elsa Donovan, left, and father Keith Donovan are both from the island. Elsa is from Mira, while Keith is from Glace Bay.
Laura Donovan of the Queen’s Gaels, middle, has family connections to Cape Breton as her mother Elsa Donovan, left, and father Keith Donovan are both from the island. Elsa is from Mira, while Keith is from Glace Bay. Both of Laura's grandparents still live in Cape Breton as well. Donovan and the Gaels will play the Alberta Pandas on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Sullivan Field House with the winner advancing to the national championship at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
