CANYON COUNTRY – Canyon’s do-it-all athlete Jeremiah Taylor took the handoff from quarterback Sebastian Martinez, found a hole to his right, and raced 68 yards for a touchdown.
Both teams came into Friday night’s game needing a win, with Canyon and Golden Valley in the midst of two and four-game losing skids, respectively. Later in the quarter, Canyon had a fouth-and-2 at Golden Valley’s 5-yard line. The Cowboys opted to go for it instead of attempting a 22-yard field goal, and that decision cost them as running back Evan Watts was stuffed at the line.
Golden Valley held serve thanks to a 5-yard score from Orozco, taking back a 21-17 lead – but Canyon had just over four minutes left to leave its last mark on the game.
