Defenceman Quinn Hughes scores two goals as Canucks blank St. Louis Blues 5-0. Thatcher Demko records shutout with 22 saves. Canucks outscore opponents 13-1 in two home games.

Defenceman Quinn Hughes scored two goals in a game for the second time in his career and Thatcher Demko stopped 22 shots for the shutout as the Canucks blanked the St. Louis Blues 5-0 Friday night.

Hughes's other two-goal game came on Feb. 1, 2020, against the New York Islanders. He now has three goals on the season. The Canucks pounced on the Blues early. They dominated the first period, outshooting St. Louis 19-3 and took a 1-0 lead when Hughes scored on a seeing-eye shot through traffic that beat Binnington on the glove side.

“You’re going to lose hockey games, but you can’t be losing them like that,” said Schenn. “You’re not even giving yourself a chance. Hughes scored his second of the night at 5:48 when he flipped a puck in front of the net that deflected in off the skate of St. Louis forward Kevin Hayes. Di Giuseppe scored his second of the season at 6:58 when he took a pass from defenceman Tyler Myers, skated between two Blues defencemen, and beat Binnington between his pads.
