Drawing a parallel between pursuit of the perfect cup of coffee, and allowing a highly\u002Dregarded National Hockey League prospect to percolate to full potential, is so very Vancouver.
Canucks director of player development Ryan Johnson, who doubles as general manager of the American Hockey League affiliate in Abbotsford, stressed Sunday that a McDonough plan was always in place for him to grow within the prospect pool.
“It’s very similar to the Lockwood situation,” added Johnson. “He had an opportunity to go back and be a captain in his senior year. It’s very admirable in both cases. Former Canucks centre Adam Gaudette, another Northeastern product and Hobey Baker Award winner in 2018, had a five-game NHL cameo after signing his entry level contract with the Canucks. He led the NCAA in scoring in his senior year with 60 points in 38 games, but it took until the 2020-21 NHL season to gain traction and put up 33 points in 59 games.
