The Canandaigua City Council passed a resolution to study red light cameras, Thursday, March 7, 2024. Thursday, Canandaigua City Council passed a resolution to further study the roadside technology.
City leaders say the cameras can be a cost-effective way to help reduce people running red lights and speeding in neighborhoods and school zones. "I think we should emphasize that this is a public safety issue and not a revenue generating issue. There is some real indication that this could save lives in the future and not just generate revenue."
After the study, city council would then vote on whether to install the cameras based on the research conducted.
