A local representative for the Canadian Homebuilders Association is offering tips to avoid being ripped off after an increase in home renovation scams., particularly seniors, of a new scam involving fraudulent agreements to do home renos.
Alexis Foster, NL executive officer for the Canadian Home Builders Association, says phony contractors are becoming more creative, meaning it’s important for homeowners to do their due diligence.Foster says any agreement should be put in writing beforehand and residents should never hire anyone under the table. Without a contract, there is no warranty and people are then liable for other things such as any injury that may occur on their property.
