The match, presented by CIBC, is the first stop in the Maritimes for Canada Soccer's women's national team since 2012 in Moncton when they beat China PR 1-0 on a goal by star Christine Sinclair. “To our knowledge, this is the first time a Canadian National Soccer Team has ever played a competitive match in Nova Scotia and it’s fitting that such a historic game be played at the Wanderers Grounds,” Wanderers president and founder Derek Martin said in a news release. “The work we’ve done to create a stadium experience at the Wanderers Grounds is what enables us to bring such an exciting match to Halifax.
Canada, the defending Olympic champions, became the fifth nation to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, joining the hosts France, Concacaf champions USA, and CONMEBOL’s top-two nations Brazil and Colombia.
